Zoom! Teeth Whitening

Your smile is more than just a feature; it's an expression and a reflection of who you are. It's the first thing people notice about you and often the last they remember. If you hide your smile due to tooth staining or discoloration, teeth whitening at Oriani Cosmetic Dental can help restore a fresher, brighter appearance.

We are pleased to offer in-office power whitening treatments for instant results and custom whitening kits you use at home at your convenience.

Professional In-Office Teeth Whitening

The fastest way to see dramatic results is with our Zoom! in-office teeth whitening treatment. This is a great lunch-hour procedure, and you’ll leave our office with a dramatically whiter and brighter smile.

First, we place a protective gel on your gums to protect them. We then apply the whitening agent to your teeth and let it work for about 15 minutes. We clean your teeth, then repeat the process until we achieve the desired results, typically involving 3–4 applications.

After treatment, we may also recommend a fluoride treatment to help reduce sensitivity and strengthen your teeth.

With Zoom! in-office treatment, we will also provide custom whitening trays and a supply of gel that you can use to continue whitening at home.

Take-Home Custom Whitening Kits

We recommend a custom take-home kit if you prefer the convenience and flexibility of at-home whitening. We’ll take traditional impressions of your teeth to create whitening trays that conform perfectly to all your tooth contours.

You will receive a supply of professional-strength whitening gel with your custom trays. Place the gel in the trays and use them daily for 30 minutes or as instructed by Dr. Oriani. Repeat this daily for several weeks or until you see the bright results you want.

With monthly touchups, you can maintain brilliant results using your trays and leftover whitening gel.

Why Teeth Become Stained or Discolored

Most of us experience tooth discoloration or staining thanks to aging, the foods and drinks we consume, and lifestyle choices like smoking. Some of the most common factors that affect your smile’s brightness are as follows:

  • Aging — Tooth enamel thins and reveals the yellowish dentin underneath as we age. It also becomes more porous and likely to collect stains.
  • Food and drinks — Drinking coffee and red wine can stain your teeth, but so can consuming foods like dark-colored berries, beets, soy sauce, and tomato sauce.
  • Smoking — Tobacco products, including vape pens and e-cigs, contain tar and nicotine that create hard-to-remove yellow and brown stains on teeth.
  • Medication — Certain medications, such as tetracycline and antihistamines, can cause tooth discoloration as a side effect.
  • Genetics — Some people's teeth are simply more prone to discoloration.

While some of these are unavoidable, living with the effects is not. Teeth whitening at our downtown Washington, DC, dental office is easy, affordable, and can brighten your smile by as many as eight shades.

Extend Teeth Whitening Results

Once you see the dramatic transformation teeth whitening provides, you’ll want to extend the beautiful results for as long as possible by taking the following steps:

  • Brush twice daily and floss once to remove surface stains and prevent plaque buildup that can dull your teeth’s brightness.
  • Avoid stain-causing foods and drinks; if you do indulge, drink water to help neutralize the staining effects.
  • Quit smoking or cut back drastically; you can’t have a bright, white smile when you use tobacco products.
  • Schedule routine teeth cleanings to remove plaque and tartar buildup and remove surface stains that can dull your smile.

Teeth whitening is a great way to achieve a brighter, more radiant smile. It is also a safe and effective cosmetic dental procedure when performed by a dental professional like Dr. Olivia Oriani.

Many over-the-counter teeth whitening products claim to produce amazing results and a whiter smile; however, these products are not always safe or effective. Many contain harsh chemicals that can damage tooth enamel or may not provide the desired results.

By contrast, professional teeth whitening treatments are administered by a trained dental professional. At Oriani Cosmetic Dental, we monitor the process carefully, so you know it will be safe and effective.
